Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali has reacted to social media reports that the dreaded Wakali Kwanza gang was terrorising Bamburi residents.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the MP expressed his sadness at the reports, saying they were an indication that Mombasa was sliding into lawlessness and that criminal outfits were growing bolder.
"It is extremely saddening that organised gangs in Mombasa are getting bolder each day. That Wakali Kwanza in Bamburi attacked innocent people and robbed them in broad daylight not only shows how bolder these gangs have become but also the lawlessness that is slowly creeping back in Mombasa County," he wrote.
The vocal MP wished those who had sustained injuries a quick recovery.
He called on the law enforcement agencies to swing into action and punish the members of the outlawed group.
"We are a country governed by laws, rules and regulations. To this regard, I call upon the police to restore law and order and punish these gangs. The officers have our full support. Today it is Kisauni, tomorrow it might be Nyali or even Mvita. These gangs must be firmly dealt with. We cannot afford to lose any more lives or send people to hospital. The people of Mombasa county deserve peace. They deserve to live and operate in an environment free of violence," he added.
Wakali Kwanza has been an ongoing security concern for the residents of the Port City of Mombasa.
The group has a reputation of carrying out random attacks on unsuspecting people.
Kenyans on social media shared gory images allegedly of the attack as they called for the police to take action.
