In recent months, Raila has remained mum about his future in politics, with the handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta making it difficult for him to publicly announce plans.

And on Friday, Bosire who attended a funeral at Miriri in Kitutu Masaba said the former Prime Minister is ready to go for another race in 2022.

"I am sure he (Raila) will be on ballot. It's going to be a tough race but we have planned well. Things will not be easy for our opponents when that time comes," he said.

Bosire added: "I am sure that ODM is still the most popular party in Gusii and as a team, we are ready to recruit more members. It's only Raila who should unite us."

In recent weeks, Deputy President William Ruto has been moving around the region hoping to sway it from Mr Odinga, a move that has seen Bosire revolt.

The Gusii leadership is hugely divided at the moment. A team by North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko supports Dr Ruto while another group under Nyamira Senator Okong'o Mogeni is pushing for Fred Matiang'i.

But Bosire remains defiant that Mr Odinga still remains the candidate for 2022 polls and has a capacity to beat all his opponents handouts down.
