The Civil Society Reference Group (CSRG) has applauded the County Government of Nakuru for starting the process of constituting the Nakuru County Budget and Economic Forum.
In a letter signed by CSRG Presiding Convener Suba Churchill, the organization pointed out Nakuru County as a good example and further urged other county governments to follow suit and establish the CBEFs as required by the Public Finance Management Act.
“The County Government of Nakuru is doing it the right way by openly and publicly inviting the various stakeholders to independently nominate their representatives for formal appointment to the County Budget and Economic Forum by the governor,” read the letter in part.
In an advertisement published on August 17 in the dailies, the County Government of Nakuru through the County Secretary invited various professional and faith-based organizations to nominate their members.
The elderly, youth, women representatives and persons living with disability were also called to front members to the budget and economic forum.
The members of the CBEF will help in the preparation of the county plans fiscal strategy paper, budget review outlook paper and advice on Budget and Economic matters.
Once formed, the forum will also play a key role in the management of public finances by ensuring the public input is incorporated to inform fiscal planning, county borrowing and wage bills.
