Garissa Governor Ali Korane has dismissed claims of supporting the Punguza Mizigo Bill fronted by Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, the governor noted that he doesn't support the Bill, but instead argued that that there are some important proposals in the Bill which should be added to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) proposal.
Korane lauded the BBI team for consulting Kenyans, noting that through public participation, BBI's proposal will express a favourable outcome from the views and recommendations collected.
This comes after Ekuru Aukot and his team visited Garissa last week to make their presentation to the County Assembly.
Governor Korane noted that he will engage the MCAs before voting on the Bill.
''As much as I respect the separation of powers and the independence of our county assembly, we will also deliberate with our MCAs before deciding the way forward," said the county boss.
Aukot, through a tweet on August 3, revealed that MCAs in Garissa had pledged support for the Bill.
"#PunguzaMizigoBill2019 yesterday received overwhelming support from the Garissa County Assembly members. We're moving forward, visiting all other remaining County Assemblies to put a case for the Constitutional Amendment Bill before the County Assemblies members," tweeted Aukot.
