The family of Anthony Gitongo, a street urchin in Eldoret who is alleged to have been killed by a police officer and his body dumped in Sosiani River is calling for justice.
According to the sister of Gitongo, Monica Atoka, the police handcuffed the deceased and threw him in the river last Friday.
“As the family of the deceased, we want justice for our brother, surely what did he do to deserve such death? We want the police to tell us what transpired and their intentions,” said Atoka.
The sister who spoke to the press at Sosiani River on Wednesday said the rescue mission which started last Friday has not born fruits due to un-experienced divers.
She wondered why the incident took place at 8:00 am on Friday but the family was informed at noon noting that there is something fishy concerning his death.
“I am calling upon the government to help us retrieve the body of the deceased for us to give him a decent burial. Stern actions should also be taken against the police officers who were involved in his death,” Atoka noted.
Benson Juma, a Human Rights activists for the street urchins condemned the incident and called for justice for the deceased.
He said those involved should face the full force of the law.
