Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah has claimed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) thinks that unleashing violence would help them gain support from their disinterested perceived strongholds.
In a tweet, Ichung'wah hit out on ODM for planning and executing violence against their opponents in Kibra on Saturday in the name of a peaceful demonstration in pursuit of electoral reforms that foster free and fair elections.
The Jubilee legislator who is also a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto referred to the Orange party as 'the cowards of the country' for displaying panic ahead of November 7th by-election.
According to the vocal lawmaker, the party had considered and trusted a notion that violence would 'activate' their support base for them to use it to acquire votes for their candidate who was running for an elective seat.
He called on ODM to conceptualize policies and use them to campaign in the constituency instead of resorting to primitive and outdated strategies such as crude violence to intimidate competitors and locals into giving in to their demands.
"This is what ODM was calling for when they called for Demonstrations this week.#Cowards_of_the_country running scared. Their belief that only violence can activate their base. Get an agenda to run on other than demos and violence," read Ichung'wah's tweet.
On Saturday, Jubilee party team which was campaigning in Kibra was attacked.
A number of them were injured and their branded vehicles destroyed after being accused of buying IDs from unsuspecting residents.
