Vocal lawyer Miguna Miguna has criticised Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga after he showered Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i with praises during a function in Kisii County on Friday.
Speaking during a burial ceremony at Manga Isecha in Kitutu Chache North Constituency, Raila described Matiang'i as a hardworking minister who has a bright future.
He defended the CS against accusations of being in the middle of the fake gold scam, saying those who linked Matiang'i to the scandal were out to bring him down.
“This is a man who knows how to work (huyu ni kijana ambaye anajua kufanya kazi)....This is a man who understands his job," said Raila.
“Some people wanted to tarnish his name (wengine walitaka kuchafua jina lake)," he added.
Raila, who is the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development, hit out at Matiang'i's critics, noting that they were fighting a losing battle.
“They are now tying him with chains to slow him down. We know them ... they will not succeed,” the ODM boss said.
Reacting to Raila's remarks, Miguna referred to the Interior CS as a "criminal" for allegedly using the police force to brutalise opposition supporters during the 2017 polls.
He said Raila should demand justice for his supporters who were injured or lost their lives, instead of cheering Matiang'i who was at the helm of the security docket.
"Instead of praising Fred Matiang’i the criminal, Raila Odinga and his hypnotised zombies should be at the forefront demanding justice for these innocent people who were driven over, maimed and killed. We shall never forget," Miguna tweeted on Saturday.
