Kenya Union of Clinical Officers Uasin Gishu County chapter chairman Dennis Cheruiyot now wants the county government to at least set up one clinical officers' interns center.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Cheruiyot said it is sad the county does not have such a facility despite it being a City of Champions, forcing students from the county to find it elsewhere.
“As clinical officers, we are calling on Governor Jackson Mandago to at least construct one clinical interns' center. We only depend on that of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital which belongs to the national government,” said Cheruiyot.
“Indeed we are a City of Champions but with the lack of such a facility, it shows that we are not serious on the issue of Universal Health Care which is in the big four agenda,” he added.
Cheruiyot further called on the Uasin Gishu county government to put up one level four hospital; working 24 hours, where a patient can be admitted and discharged without being referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
He noted that the current county hospital lacks enough clinicians, health consultants, medical officers thus provision of poor services.
