There was drama in Gucha, Kisii County on Sunday after a man who is an enumerator in the ongoing census exercise, was arrested by police officers for being drunk.
Kisii County Commander Martin Kibet confirmed the arrest of Elijah Onsaria Maranga.
Kibet said Maranga showed up at Gucha Sub-County hospital to count patients under the influence of alcohol.
"The enumerator arrived at the hospital to count patients when the content manager Harrison Theka noticed that he was drunk. Theka notified police officers who immediately arrested the enumerator," said Kibet.
The commander said medics at the facility injected the suspect with a substance to reduce the level of alcohol in his body in vain.
"Onsaria was surrendered to Ogembo police station where is being locked up. He will be taken to court to be charged in accordance to the law," said the commander.
The police boss appealed to enumerators not to report on duty while drunk saying they may end up capturing wrong data in the electronic devices which they have been given to conduct the crucial exercise.
He assured that police officers will be more vigilant to ensure no enumerator, content manager or superviser is working under the influence of alcohol.
