Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has denied linking Deputy President William Ruto to the assassination of businessman Jacob Juma, whose murder is yet to be resolved.
Speaking on K24's Punchline on Sunday, the county boss who claims that the DP has threatened his life said that his reference to Juma's murder should not be seen as linking the DP to the murder.
He noted that he only mentioned Juma to drive the point home, that there is the need for his claims to be taken seriously and properly investigated, and not brushed off like Juma's.
He stated that he used Juma as an example of a Kenyan whose fears for his life were ignored, only for him to end up dead, and, therefore, wanted to challenge the police to look into his case.
"I was not linking DP Ruto to Jacob Juma’s death. I was only using him as an example [to show someone who complained about receiving death threats, and ended up being killed]," he said.
Mutua, a fierce critic of the DP, stated that he knows nothing about Ruto's role in the murder of the businessman whose murder is still a mystery, three years after his death.
He said that the same is the job of the police and not his."I do not know whether he was involved in Juma’s death. I am not the police, I am not [mandated to investigate the claims]," he added.
Juma was assassinated in Nairobi on May 5, 2015. His vehicle was found in a ditch along Ngong Road, inside was his lifeless body.
Mutua last Monday recorded a statement with the police over the threats, which he says were made in State House during the handover of the Building Bridges Initiative report, last month.
He said that he received similar threats from National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and his Senate counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen, over his attacks on Ruto.
