Although he's yet to declare interest, a group of leaders led by Governor John Nyagarama, James Ongwae, Senators Okong'o Mogeni and Sam Ongeri have been pushing for his entry to politics.

On Saturday, Matiang'i is understood to have sponsored over 30 leaders for a meeting at Borabu MP Ben Momanyi's residence to discuss his fate in politics.

The team pitched tent at Riamoni in Kitutu Masaba on Sunday, castigating another team pushing for the interest of Deputy President William Ruto in Gusii.

MPs Joash Nyamoko, Vincent Kemosi and Shadrack Mose have been pushing for Ruto's agenda. The two teams have been organising parallel events.

While Matiang'i's team believe he has done much and should go for national seat, Ruto's team believes the DP is qualified for the top seat in 2022.

But despite the presence of the two teams, another team under ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire is pushing for Raila Odinga's presidency and has not been keen with ongoing realignments.

For Mr Bosire, ODM remains strongest party in Gusii and thus there is no need to negotiate with other entities for coalitions in future.
