The Kalenjin Council of Elders popularly known as Myoot has warned Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi against going to 2022 polls a divided team.
Addressing the press in Kapenguria, council's chairperson James Lukwo has called upon the two leaders to form a strong and united team in the region so that the community can front one candidate in 2022.
“We have been disunited for so long and this has derailed us in terms of development. It is time we formed a united team for 2022 and beyond,” Lukwo said as quoted by Nation.
He vowed that the elders will do everything to ensure that the two leaders unite.
“We have no reason to hate each other. There is no point to look at each other as enemies. Let us as elders unite (the two leaders),'' he noted.
The elders further urged the other political leaders in the region to work hand in hand as they reiterated that the community is not divided as speculated by other leaders who are not from the region.
“Over the years, outsiders have used misunderstandings amongst the region’s leadership to engender divisions among the Kalenjins. We affirm that this has been hearsay and poison served to our people, which we hereby reject. We have told them that there must be a first among equals to lead the quest for national leadership,” Lukwo said.
DP Ruto has already declared interest to vie for the presidency in 2022 on a Jubilee ticket.
He has been seen as engaged in a supremacy battle with Senator Moi who is also thought to be eying the top seat.
