Three people have been confirmed dead after consuming a suspected concoction in Bungoma County.
The trio was part of a group that took the herbal drink prepared by a local herbalist in Tabani village in Tongaren sub-county on Thursday.
The herbalist reportedly convinced the victims that the mixture could cure a number of ailments, with the outcome being the hospitalization of five others.
The five were reportedly rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret in critical condition and were admitted at the facility's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Among the dead were a woman and her mother-in-law who died only three minutes after consuming the concoction, while the other died after seeking chest medication.
According to her daughter Judith Situma, the death came as a shock as the herbalist is not new to area locals, and has been rendering such services for some time.
She added that the death of her mother now leaves her an orphan as she was her only remaining parent.
"Mum was my only remaining parent and it is sad we lost her. I don’t know what happened because it was not the first time she had visited the herbalist. We are baffled and actually don’t know what to do next,” she told the Citizen Digital.
