Two of the sacked officials were shown the door Tuesday for allegedly engaging in adultery.

Not much was given in the way of details of the adulterous behaviour beyond that the two officials had been charged with the responsibility of guarding palace bedrooms.

“They have committed inappropriate acts and adultery, " a statement from the palace partly read.

The other two were fired over what the palace said was not meeting the standards of the royal court and were sent home with zero compensation.

Further, the four were stripped of their military ranks as further punishment for their 'unbecoming behaviour'.

The sacking came hot on the heels of another round of sackings last week that saw six palace officials told to go home.

The king hit global headlines a few months ago after tying the knot with his former bodyguard.

Ms Wongvajirapakdi, a professional nurse who served as a royal bodyguard, was among the six officials sacked last week.

She was accused of trying to rise to the position of queen.

Andrew McGregor Marshall, a historian, contends that the king intended to assert his power by sacking the officials.

"He intends to reign as an absolute monarch like the Thai kings of the past. And by suddenly stripping his consort of her status just three months later, he is also signalling his power. He wants Thais to recognise that he has the power to elevate people and crush people based on his whims, and nobody can stand in his way, " Marshall says.
