ODM leader Raila Odinga has sensationally claimed that the recent tragedy at Precious Talent Academy was not an accident, something that could raise yet another debate.
Early this week, seven children died and several others injured in the Dagoretti South school after their classrooms collapsed under unclear circumstances.
Already, the owner of the institution, one Moses Wainaina, has been detained for 15 days to allow police carry out investigations over the matter.
On Monday, when visiting the school immediately after the incident, the Education CS noted that the other classrooms in the school were in stable condition.
“In my most humble opinion, the classes are stable, but you notice somebody went and built another storey on top of a temporary structure,” Magoha said.
The accident shocked hundreds of Nairobi parents who have raised concerns over safety of their children. The institution has since closed down.
But during the memorial service on Friday, Mr Odinga insisted that the tragedy was planned suggestively by politicians who are out to make political capital out of it.
"We are very saddened by this tragedy. It's one of things that parents do not expect at all. I have come today to grief with you," be said.
"This is not an accident. It's something that was planned. Those who planned it are here trying to shed crocodile tears," he added.
Governor Mike Sonko suspended 16 workers following the tragedy, arguing that they were responsible for negligence despite being given the responsibility to inspect buildings.
But Mr Odinga said the officers will still come back to work, arguing that after all, they will be found innocent by authorities since the accident was 'planned'.
