Oguna, who has been facing criticism from among social media users over delayed recovery of the bodies, promised to come back on Friday 'with good news'.

The two drowned in the Indian Ocean 14 days ago and their bodies were spotted in seabed on Wednesday. Since then, the goverment has not been able to retrieve them.

"We have delayed because there were strong currents. More importantly, there are two bodies which must be given respect. Had it been just the vehicle, we'd have retrieved it long time ago," said Oguna.

"By tomorrow evening (Friday), we shall be talking about good news. I urge our people to be patient. By Friday evening, things shall be alright," he added.

The retrieval of the bodies took a political angle on Wednesday when Kenya Navy took credit for spotting the victims' vehicle. Private divers from South Africa reportedly disputed.

"We have been having a government multi-agency which involves Kenya Navy, Kenya Ferry Services among others. The entire team is led by Kenya Navy under Col Lawrence Gituma.

"Those who were leading and had divers were Kenya Navy. Some helped us with cameras but it's Kenya Navy that spotted the vehicle. We are not saying that others didn't contribute but without divers, we wouldn't have made the progress," Oguna had said.

Mr John Wambua also informed The Standard that the South Africans left on Wednesday evening following the disagreement with KDF.

“The South African divers we hired left the country on Wednesday at 4pm after completing their task which was to locate the car,” he said.
