For months now, a section of politicians led by Senator Okong'o Mogeni have been pushing for the presidency of Dr Fred Matiang'i across Gusii region.

In August, the team pleaded with ODM leader Raila Odinga to support Dr Matiang'i for the top seat, a request which was however, not endorsed.

"Matiang'i is like my son. I know what's good for him. For now, allow him to do his job. When the right time comes, we shall see what to do about it," he said.

But the COTU boss on Wednesday said Matiang'i's Presidency can be impactful, adding that his abrasive nature will make things work for the country.

"Of course he can be a good President. He is abrasive and result oriented than many of his colleagues. That's what Kenyans need," he said.

Both Governors John Nyagarama and James Ongwae have also endorsed Matiang'i's presidency. The two have been leading unity campaigns in his favour.

Although the minister is yet to declare political interest, a number of his allies have hinted his impending move to national politics.

"He is now at the national stage and can be a president. President Uhuru Kenyatta trusts him and that's what he needs," Borabu MP Ben Momanyi once said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta promoted Matiang'i within cabinet, a move that has seen him chair implementation of national goverment projects.
