Police in Naivasha in Nakuru county are investigating two bodies were recovered from Lake Naivasha.
The bodies which did not have visible assault marks were found floating on the lake on Wednesday, with the police having swung to action in a probe.
The same was confirmed by Naivasha Sub County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kenneth Njoroge.
Njoroge, however, did not immediately adopt claims from area residents who claimed that the bodies were of thieves who had been lynched by an angry mob.
“We are yet to establish what transpired, but we have stepped up the probe,” he was quoted by the Nation.
According to a local who spoke to the nation, the two were accosted and lynched while attempting to steal fish from the fishing nets on Monday night.
However, the police boss said that his office is awaiting a postmortem report before proceeding with the investigations.
“We are awaiting for a postmortem report to help us establish the actual cause of death,” he added.
Other reports indicate that they might have drowned while on a nighttime fishing expedition, a story the police seem to be partly siding with.
But seasoned lake operator David Kilo says that the duo might have been murdered elsewhere and their bodies dumped in the place.
