Despite the dominance by opposers of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), several leaders from Nakuru County have declared their backing for the constitutional amendment.
The group is led by Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, who has openly declared his support for the President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga-led Initiative.
He on Monday revealed that he is fully involved in the push to make the BBI a success in the county and is also involved in the ongoing campaigns of the BBI to inform the public on its contents.
He added that he will also be fully involved in the BBI consultative forum slated for Suswa in Narok in February. He said that the report has a lot of benefits for Kenyans.
"We are working with the team for national mapping. BBI seeks to be Wanjiku-driven. For the Suswa meeting in Narok County slated for February 17, we are fully engaged. We shall work with all elected leaders who support BBI,” he told the Standard.
Other leaders in support of the push are Samuel Arama (Nakuru West), Raymond Moi (Rongai) and former Molo MP Njenga Mungai.
Those opposed to the push are Senator Susan Kihika, Woman Representative Liza Chelule and David Gikaria (Nakuru East).
Others are Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati), Kuria Kimani (Molo), Joseph Tanui (Kuresoi South) Moses Cheboi (Kuresoi South) and Charity Kathambi (Njoro).
Samuel Gachobe (Subukia) and Martha Wangari (Gilgil) are deemed neutral.
