The recent Cabinet reshuffle by President Uhuru Kenyatta that saw former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri fired from cabinet, has been met with anger from a section of politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto.

While taking swipe at the President's decision to drop Kiunjuri, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa claimed that the former CS should not be entirely blamed for the problems in the Agriculture Ministry.

“You cannot blame the failure of a ministry entirely on a Cabinet Secretary. Principal Secretaries are the ones involved in the running of a ministry,” he said.

According to Barasa, the Principal Secretary in the Agriculture Ministry is equally responsible for the problems that critical docket has had, that perhaps sealed the fate of Kiunjuri.

Further, the outspoken lawmaker accused the President of biased appointments saying that only two regions had been favoured.

"Why should I be happy with the appointments? Kenya is not Central and Nyanza alone. They (the changes) were as fake as the handshake," claimed the lawmaker.

The firing of Kiunjuri from Cabinet has elicited mixed reactions with many claiming that it was a move by the President to ring-fence his Mount Kenya support base from the DP's encroachment ahead of the 2022 general election where he has trained his eyes on the top seat.

Kiunjuri has in the last few months emerged as Dr Ruto's main man in Central Kenya.
