In a series of rallies in Meru on Saturday, the second in command said that Kenya has more pressing issues that should be addressed and not referendum push.

Ruto, who is considered as one of the front runners in the race for Presidency in 2022, said that the leaders who are rooting for a change in the constitution are misled.

He said that time has come for the leaders behind BBI to reconsider the issues affecting Kenyans rather than recommending for changes in the constitution of this nation before President Uhuru Kenyatta completes his second and final term in power.

“They are disturbing us with these politics calling for changes to the Constitution. Let us desist from such politics and focus on development,” he said, as quoted by Standard.

Ruto also affirmed that he has been active since he took over the position following the re-election of President Kenyatta.

He reiterated that he has always been committed to serving the people of Kenya before Jubilee's term ends.

“I am the DP of this country and l am working since I took an oath to help President Kenyatta,” Ruto added. The Deputy President was accompanied by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, MPs Gitonga Murugara (Tharaka), John Mutunga (Tigania West), Gichunge Kabeabea (Tigania East) and Charity Kathambi of Njoro.
