There was drama in Eldoret town on Thursday night after a suspected car hijacker locked himself in a popular hotel within the town.
At around 8pm, a man packed his vehicle outside a restaurant, only for a suspected carjacker to force himself into the car.
The suspected carjacker managed to drive a short distance before being intercepted by boda boda riders and taxi drivers in the area.
Upon noticing that the situation was getting out of hand, the middle-aged man jumped out of the vehicle, ran into a nearby hotel, and locked himself in the kitchen.
Angry residents baying for his blood tried to forcefully access the kitchen of the hotel where the man had locked himself, but were thwarted by police officers from Eldoret Central police station.
The suspected thief was whisked into the waiting police car, as the alleged stolen vehicle was towed to the Eldoret police station.
“He came running straight into the kitchen and locked himself up. We were worried wondering what was happening as people flooded the hotel,” said one of the waiter's at the hotel.
The police officers promised to investigate and ensure justice is served.
“We were notified of a suspected car hijacker around Maggie’s Hotel. We are going to investigate on the issue and ensure all those involved are brought to book,” one of the officers identified as Elvis Kosgei said.
