Under the leadership of Thirdway Alliance boss Ekuru Aukot, the bill seeks to reduce the wagebill by elective representation by over a half.

Addressing the same on Sunday, Ruto opposed the push, accusing it of trying to infringe on the rights of women and their political gains.

He noted that since the bill seeks to abolish the Woman Rep seats, its going against democrasy by suppressing women leadership.

"I don't like Punguza Mizigo because its trying to reverse the gains of women," said the former Council of Governors (CoG) chair.

The Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader made the remarks on K24's Punchline show on Sunday night.

He urged Aukot to stop trying to hide behind the heavy wagebill, pointing out that democrasy is always an expensive affair.

"Democrasy is an expensive business. If you don't like it try the military one and you will see," he added.

In his bill, Aukot had also proposed the reduction of Members of Parliament and abolition of Deputy Governor positions.

However, the bill is having it hard going past the County Assemblies, where it has been rejected by the 7 of the 8 which have discussed it.
