Nominated MP Maina Kamanda is rooting for the impeachment of embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Speaking in Kiambu during the swearing-in of James Nyoro as the substantive Governor for Kiambu, Kamanda asked the Nairobi Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to show table an impeachment motion against Sonko.
He argued that Sonko has proven beyond doubt that he cannot take Nairobi anywhere, adding that sending him home will be the best move that can be undertaken at the moment before he messes the county more.
Kamanda said that Sonko needs to follow the same path as his Kiambu Counterpart Ferdinand Waititu who was impeached by MCAs before the Senate upheld the decision.
He accused Sonko of escaping from the Shimo La Tewa Prison, adding that he needs to be taken back to jail.
“Tunawaambia MCAs wa Nairobi waangalie vile MCAs wa Kiambu wamefanya…Waondoe huyo mwizi aende Nyumbani, waondoe huyo mwizi aende nyumbani ama arudi Shimo la tewa,(We are asking Nairobi MCAs to follow Kiambu county’s example, send the thief home or to Shimo La Tewa ),” Kamanda said.
Kamanda also said that he was part of the team that fought to ensure Waititu does not retain his position. He also said that the decision to impeach the county boss is the best thing that has ever happened to the people of Kiambu.
