Kabonyo Kanyagwal Ward Representative Oiko Pete has broken his silence over heavy downpour that is continuously wreaking havoc in the Nyando area.
Speaking outside the Kisumu County Assembly on Tuesday, Pete told the government to be vigilant as there is increasing fear over excess harm caused by heavy rainfall.
He also called on the county government of Kisumu to use cash set aside for disaster management to build dykes on rivers that ever break the banks whenever there is a heavy downpour.
“The floods are now getting into our houses. It also interferes with daily operations as candidates and invigilators find it tough to reach schools due to flooded roads. Farming is also difficult because waters have swept the already planted crops,” said the MCA.
He also noted that contractors from county government are already tasked to ensure streams such as Miriu Kang’onda and Miriu Orecha which borders Kabonyo Kanyagwal and Kobura Wards pour waters into Lake Victoria.
“We have talked to our county government who have agreed to offer us contractors, who will ensure the streams are fixed to pour their waters into the Lake Victoria,” he said.
He also revealed that the Kabonyo Kanyagwal and Kobura people had already sat down with area chiefs and agreed on how to fix the flood issue within the two Wards.
The outcry comes KCPE exams continues with Bwanda, Kasang’any and Korwana primary schools in Nyando sub-county been affected.
