Divers involved in the delicate recovery operation at the Likoni Ferry crossing have resorted to using their sense of touch in locating the vehicle that sank on Sunday evening with two occupants.
Speaking to members of the press on Wednesday, Government Spokesman Retired Colonel Cyrus Oguna, who is overseeing the operation said the divers were not able to see while down there hence their use of touch.
The revelation gives a sense of the challenges that the divers are grappling with as they endeavour to recover the bodies.
"They are using their hands to identify objects that are there. They are not using their eyes because when they are down there they cannot see (Wanatumia mikono zao kwa kuweza kutambua ni kitu kipi kiko pale. Hawatatumia macho kwa sababu macho wakiwa kule chini hawaoni),"Oguna said.
The recovery effort resumed on Wednesday after being suspended temporarily on Tuesday due to darkness.
A section of Kenyans have accused the government of dragging its feet in recovering the remains of the victims of the ferry incident.
KFS, it has been revealed, did not have divers on its payroll to help forestall incidences like the one that happened on Sunday evening.
