Ijara Member of Parliament Sophia Abdi Noor has thrown her weight behind Ummulkheir Harun Mohamed, also known as Umi, a Miss President contestant who hails from Garissa County.

The Ijara legislator called on those hailing from from the county and Kenyans at large to support the Garissa contestant, saying that Ummulkheir was a brilliant lady.

"To the great people of Garissa, Northern Kenya and Kenyans at large, as we approach the finale of the reality show #MsPresident, I wish to express my full support to Ummulkheir Harun Mohamed and further appeal to all of you to join me in supporting our Ms President Umi, " the Ijara legislator appealed.

Her support comes as the end of the program aired on the Kenya Television Network (KTN) closes in.

Umi will battle it out against other contestants from various parts of the country including Renee Nyakerario from Nyamira County, Betty Adera from Nairobi County, Nereah Amondi from Homa Bay County and Waruguru Kiai from Nyeri County.

Kenyans have been voting through a short messaging system for the contestants.

The contestant with the majority votes will be crowned the winner.

Miss president is aimed at inspiring women to contest for top leadership positions in a country that has never had a female head of state.
