Officer-in-charge of operations in Western, Elisha Yalo has dismissed claims that a bus headed for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting has been burned along the Mumias road on Saturday.
Speaking to journalists in Kakamega Town, Yalo said that the claims are false and ill-timed. He said that he had used the route to reach Kakamega and no bus has been burned so far. He warned members of the public against spreading false information, saying that they could be held accountable in the event of anything.
“We have another issue that we have not confirmed that a bus has been burned along the Bungoma-Mumias-Kakamega road but I can say that I have used the route and no bus has been burned down as alleged. We have stationed police alongside the road.
(Kuna issue ingine ambayo hatujathitibisha inasemekana kwamba kuna bus moja imechomwa. Bungoma-Mumias-Kakamega road lakini naweza thibitisha ya kwamba vile nimekuja nikitumia hiyo barabara hakuna bus yoyote imechomwa tumeweka askari kwa barabara)” he said in part.
Showdown looms in Kakamega after leaders opposed to the BBI meeting also vowed to hold a parallel rally. The police officers have, however, denied the anti-BBI team a permit to hold the meeting. Several leaders are expected to attend the meeting.
