President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Labour CS Ukur Yatani Kanacho as acting CS of National Treasury and Planning.
Yatani will now be in charge of Treasury and Labour until the president names a new nominee for the position.
Before joining Uhuru's government, Yatani served as Marsabit Governor.
The new development comes after former CS Henry Rotich was arrested over the multi-billion shilling Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal following an order from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.
Other officers facing trial over the scandal are Kamau Thugge (Treasury Principal Secretary), Jackson Kinyanjui (Treasury Director of resource mobilization) among others.
Haji said he has enough evidence against the suspects.
"Public corruption is a blatant abuse of power by persons in positions of authority and it threatens the very fabric of our society. Nobody is above the law no matter how powerful," he said.
The accused denied the charges leveled against them when they appeared in court on Tuesday.
Rotich and Thugge were released on a Sh50 million bond with a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Sh15 million each.
