One person has been confirmed dead while 23 others are sustaining serious injuries after Modern Coast bus veered off the road and rolled several times.
The accident occurred near Brooke Trading centre on the Kericho-Nakuru Highway after hitting bumps. The accident is believed to have happened at around 1 am.
Confirming the incident, a police officer who sought anonymity noted that the bus was from Nairobi and it was heading to Kampala, Uganda before the accident.
One passenger died on arrival at Kericho County Referral. The rest are receiving treatment at the moment while some have been discharged after being treated.
“One person has died while 23 who sustained injuries are being attended to at Kericho County Referral Hospital,” said a senior officer.
“The bus, which was travelling from Nairobi to Kampala, Uganda hit a bump and rolled, injuring the passengers, while one was pronounced dead on arrival at Kericho County Referral Hospital,” said the officer.
The body of the dead accident victim has been taken to the Hospital's mortuary.
The wreckage of the bus was trawled to Kericho Police Station.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution when driving and they should observe all the traffic rules and follow them to the latter.
