ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi's newfound closeness to president Uhuru Kenyatta could make him the next president, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has said.
Mudavadi, a member of the opposition's National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition, has lately been appearing closer to Uhuru lately, which Wamalwa says might see him picked as Uhuru's successor in the 2022 polls.
He says that Uhuru's decision to ask Mudavadi to accompany him to the Modika Barracks in Balambala earlier in the month is a demonstration that hood things are in the offing.
"It is the President who has the ball on the pitch, maybe he could just pass it to Mudavadi,” he said at the Mbale Municipal Grounds in Vihiga, during the Maragoli cultural festival on Thursday.
According to Wamalwa, there is now need for the Western Kenya region to form one strong political force in readiness to the main poll, stressing on the need for a merger of all the political parties from the region.
He also challenged the former Vice President to now focus on attracting more support from outsiders, also advising him to seek support outside his party.
“We must galvanise the region and reach out to friends out there. Let us have a formidable political force by merging all the political outfits or else our efforts and desire to clinch the top seat will be in vain,” he added.
Should he stick to his bid, Mudavadi is very likely to face off with among others, Deputy President William Ruto, who has also declared his interest in succeeding Uhuru.
