ODM leader Raila Odinga has raised concern over the high rates of youth unemployment in different countries in Africa.
Speaking during a Powering Jobs Conference at Strathmore University on Thursday, Raila, who also doubles as African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development, urged governments to invest more in renewable energy to create jobs for the youth and other population.
The opposition leader noted that it is unfortunate that most countries in the Sub Saharan region are yet to embrace renewable energy, and yet they decry endless problems.
The former Prime Minister opined that investing more in the renewable sources of energy is among the best ways the governments in Africa can tackle the issue of unemployment.
“There is no denying that energy is the sector on which Kenya and Africa can depend in the years ahead to spur economic development, attract investment and create jobs for young people,” Odinga said as quoted by Daily Nation.
He said the population has been increasing at a fast rate, and the only way to handle the same is through the creation of jobs for various groups of people.
