Harambee Stars Coach Sebastian Migne has revealed that the Kenyan side drew lots of inspiration from a message that President Uhuru Kenyatta sent the team.
Speaking in Cairo after Kenya's win over the Taifa Stars of Tanzania, Migne said that President Uhuru's message, urging the team to give its best even if they don't win the tournament, inspired his players.
"When we received the message of the President of the Republic President Kenyatta he told us, "We know you cannot win this tournament but we want to be proud of you, give your best." I think today, it was not perfect of course, but we gave our best, of course, " the Harambee Stars coach said.
Harambee Stars came from behind twice to beat the Taifa Stars of Tanzania 3-2 in a nail-biting African Cup of Nations (AFCON) fixture that was rich in entertainment.
In his message before the Stars players played their opener against the Desert Foxes of Algeria, President Uhuru Kenyatta urged the team to give its best even if it did not amount to victory.
"I want to remind you of just one thing, the discussion we had before you left. "It is great to win and we look forward and pray for your win but what is most important is that you come back home knowing that you did your best and gave it your all. Good luck team Kenya. Good luck Harambee Stars, " President Uhuru said.
