The killing of Iran’s Quds Force leader General Qassem Soleimani was celebrated by the faithful of Sunni Islam, former Ladgera MP Farah Maalim has noted.
Maalim, the former Speaker of the National Assembly, claimed Soleimani was a persecutor of Sunnis, saying that is why they lauded his assassination by United States army.
He claimed the fallen General planned and executed the murder of about 1 million Sunnis in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen.
"The residents of the Northern provinces of Al Anbar, Diala & Salahdin of Iraq, Sunnis of Lebanon and Syria celebrated the death of Gen Soleimani. Yemenis also had a sigh of relief on learning of the death of the Iranian General. The man snuffed the life out of about 1m Sunni Arab," Maalim posted on Twitter, Monday.
Soleimani belonged to Shia Islam, who form the majority of Muslims in Iran, and the denomination does not consider Sunnis to be Muslims in any way.
The Quds Force leader was killed in an American drone attack near the Baghdad airport last week and his assassination has threatened to put Washington and Tehran into war.
Maalim said Iran was paying for its sins for having been an ally of the West in the destruction of Muslim countries such as Syria.
"Gulf States and Iran are beginning to sample tastes of their own medicine. For two decades with the help of the West they torched every Muslim Country they could lay their hands on. When a rogue terrorist gang turn on themselves, their former helpless victims can only celebrate," the former legislator stated.
