Ugandan police officers on Sunday released three Kenyan fishermen who had been arrested last Friday.
Reports on Citizen Digital indicate that the three were released after their families paid a Sh35,000 fine as demanded by the Ugandan authorities.
The fishermen were arrested on Friday at Yama Island in Uganda and their boats confiscated.
Confirming their release, Kibro Beach Management Unit chairperson Joel Maulidi said the fishermen returned home only after the fine was paid.
He decried harassment from Ugandan and Tanzanian authorities adding that fishermen were losing a lot of money paying fines.
This is not the first time Kenyan fishermen have been arrested at Lake Victoria during their fishing expedition.
Kenyan fishermen have in the past pleaded with the government to intervene and protect them from harassment by Ugandan and Tanzanian authorities.
The fishermen rely on Lake Victoria for their livelihoods.
