Kisii County government has unveiled two modern fire engines with a total capacity of 11,000 litres, a milestone since inception of devolution.
The engines one equipped with 360° electric lights and highest pressure nozzles, features which will make it easy to combat fire breakouts.
While unveiling the two modern fire engines at the assembly grounds on Tuesday, Governor Ongwae said the acquisition will help the county handle disasters with ease.
"Now we have got two new fire engines. One can have 10,000 litres of water and is one of the best. The other one which is Toyota and can take up to 1,000 litres of water. The smaller engine is for inaccessible areas," he said.
The county is also setting up a multi-million fire station which is set to be complete in one month's timr. According to Ongwae, it will be one of the best in Nyanza.
"As you all know in the next one month we are opening a fire station. It's going to be the biggest fire station in Western Kenya. This is an indication that we readily prepared to counter any disaster that might emerge," he added
Already, a team of experts have been trained on how to handle the modern engines acquired from Europe.
Previously, Kisii County has severally been hit by fires tragedies especially in schools. They used to depend on the neighbouring Nyamira County's engine which was not reliable at times.
The expected fire station is expected to rival the one set by Governor Mike Sonko of Nairobi along Kangundo Road, which is also yet to be unveiled.
