For a couple of weeks now, CJ Maraga has been forced to fight back, accusing the Executive of undermining his seat by sabotaging the Judiciary.

A fortnight ago, Maraga accused the Executive of slashing Judiciary's budget by almost Sh3 billion contrary to the law.

At Tente SDA Church on Saturday, a section of leaders urged Maraga to defend Judiciary's independence, saying that frequent cases of sabotage are unwelcome.

"Parliament must come out clean and protect the Judiciary. CJ Maraga cannot be a punching bag for some mandarins in the Executive," nominated MCA George Mosiori said.

"When Judiciary is at its knees, subversion of Justice is common. We urge CJ Maraga to remain unbowed and protect the independence," lawyer Danstan Omari said.

Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, a lawyer by profession, also backed the Chief Justice, arguing that the separation of power is clear in the Constitution.

"Executive should revise the law and do what is required. It's not necessary to intimidate an independent organ of government," he said.

Others who called for sobriety include Governor John Nyagarama, West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi.
