Kenya has marked a bloody start to 2020 after 9 lives were lost on the 1st of January 2020 in different circumstances.
One of the accidents happened in Nairobi at the Church Army roundabout involving an Ummoinner Sacco bus and a motorcycle.
The driver of the bus was speeding when he avoided hitting an oncoming car and hit the motorcycle at Makongeni area.
The driver vanished after casing the death of one and injuring several passengers.
Those injured were rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital while the deceased was taken the City Mortuary. Police are after the killer driver.
Meanwhile, 5 lives were also lost along the Eldama Ravine-Eldoret road in Baringo County.
In Kericho County along Kericho-Litein highway, 2 people perished after a car and a motorbike collided. Bureti Sub-County Police Commander, Felicia Nafula, confirmed the accident.
“The Boda Boda rider died on the spot while the passenger, who sustained serious head injuries, died while undergoing treatment at Litein AIC Hospital,” Felicia Nafula said.
The accident attracted protests from locals.
“We have cleared the road after addressing the residents who were demanding that bumps should be erected in the area to avert loss of lives,” Ms Nafula added.
Another life was lost in Kirinyaga County along Kutus-Rwambiti road.
