COTU secretary-general Francis Atwoli has revealed the condition on which he could make a stab at the presidency despite not harbouring presidential aspirations.
Speaking on Wednesday during the Jeff Koinange Live (JKL) show aired on Citizen TV, the renowned trade unionist said he could only run for the top seat if forced by Kenyans to do so.
It would only take people marching to what he described as his humble abode for him to make a foray into presidential politics.
"I said I would not owe my candidature unless if there will be a march. Sometimes people can march and come to my small house in Kajiado and say, "Francis we have decided you to lead us, " the COTU boss said.
Atwoli said that the Kenyan political scene was too tribalistic for his liking.
According to him, when he decides to run, should he make that 'unlikely' decision, the Kenyan electorate will be keen on his ethnic extraction rather than his abilities as a leader.
There is a section of Kenyans who have called on the COTU supremo to run for the presidency in 2022.
A number of individuals have come out to say that they will be seeking to contest for the top seat once President Uhuru Kenyatta who is on his second and final term exits the office.
He will be handing over the reins of power to another leader in 2022 as he is barred by the Constitution from seeking another term beyond the legally sanctioned two terms.
In a speech a few days ago, he said that he will willingly hand over power to whoever will be elected.
