At least 10 Burkina Faso soldiers have been killed following a militia attack on Monday night. The attack, which occurred in the Northern part of the country, has left citizens in panic mode as incidents of terror continue to rise.
According to the government, the attack is one of the deadliest in the history of this nation.
There are scores of soldiers who are still missing after the gunmen struck. Reports indicate that the death toll is likely to surpass 20.
"In the early morning, the military detachment of the Koutougou department in Soum province was the target of a major attack by armed terrorist groups," said a statement from the general staff.
"A provisional report states that more than a dozen soldiers were killed, and several were wounded."
The attackers stormed the camp with heavy weapons before they opened fire thereby killing more than a dozen of the soldiers in a matter of hours.
The Government has condemned the attack terming it cowardly and ill-motivated.
The residents of the affected area are now appealing to the government to put in place tougher measures after the attack at the camp that also left scores injured.
Leaders from across the world have also condemned the incident.
