President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday presided over the official handover ceremony of Sh8 million Mang’u Dispensary Outpatient Block in Thika, Kiambu County.
President Uhuru said the facility will assist in the delivery of quality and affordable health services to county residents geared towards Universal health.
Uhuru thanked the Catholic Church and the Government of Japan for complementing government's efforts of ensuring the delivery of quality and affordable health services.
Uhuru questioned why we spent close to Sh70 billion of devolved and CDF funds every year when the Japanese Government only spent Sh8 million to put up the facility in Kiambu.
“If you compare the Sh70 billion allocated to the devolved units and to MPs through CDF annually and what has been used here, it means that every year if we utilised our funds prudently we would have been able to put up 7,000 dispensaries across the country,” reads a communication by the president through The Statehouse.
The president urged all the development partners and stakeholders to join hands and ensure the rollout of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the remaining 43 counties is a success.
Japanese Ambassador to Kenya Ryoichi Horie said the Japanese Government will continue partnering with the Kenyan Government on projects that will help better the lives of Kenyans.
“The County of Kiambu has benefited from many projects under different schemes by the Japanese Government. And I promise you Cardinal and the local people here that we will continue to extend our assistance to you,” the ambassador said.
