A police officer was on Monday arraigned before a Nakuru Court to answer to charges of attempting to kill two women.
Saka Achimba was being accused of allegedly attempting to kill his former lover Phanice Nyabaro and her 17-year-old sister, Ruth Nyaboro.
The court heard that the accused on December 28, 2019 at Fire Administration Police line in Bondeni estate on the outskirts of Nakuru Town had doused his 27-year-old ex-lover with petrol together with her sister before setting them on fire.
Reports indicate that the two women who suffered injuries are recuperating at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.
Ruth claimed that her sister, Phanice had ended her relationship with Achimba several weeks ago and the suspect had been threatening to kill her since then.
On the material date, the accused is said to have gone with a jerrycan of petrol to Phanice’s shop and doused the sisters with petrol before setting them on fire.
The police asked the court to grant them more time to complete their investigations into the incident.
The police in their application said they need more time to record statements for the two women who are still in the hospital.
“The two, who sustained serious burns, were unable to record statements by Monday,” said the police in their application.
Principal Magistrate Bernard Mararo granted the application and ordered that the accused be detained for five days.
The case will be heard on January 6, next year.
