Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i will have to face a stiff resistance across Gusii region, with DP William Ruto's team coming up with a new strategy to counter him.
Dr Matiang'i, who is yet to declare any interest, is under pressure to contest for presidency, a move that has been backed by a host of leaders.
Pro-Matiang'i team, which managed to bring on board Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi and Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, has been holding fundraisers across Kisii and Nyamira.
But in a rejoinder, Dr Ruto's team, which brings together majority of MPs from the two counties, has resorted to also holding parallel campaigns in the region.
At North Mugirango on Sunday, South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, one of vocal legislators in Ruto's camp, said the team is ready to traverse the region.
"If thru hold fundraisers, we shall hold more of them. We cannot allow them to cheat our people. Our DP has launched many projects and we can't abandon him," he said.
Chairman Gusii Parliamentary Group Joash Nyamoko, in the same event, said the team shall use development projects to rally for Ruto in future.
"We don't want to just move around. We shall be launching every project that is at our disposal so that our people can see those who are ready to work for them," he said.
Besides the two, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, MPs Alfa Miruka, Shadrack Mose, Vincent Kemosi, Ezekiel Mochogu are part of the team.
Matiang'i's team is under Nyamira Senator Okong'o Mogeni and his Kisii counterpart Sam Ongeri. The two have been coordinating activities in the region in support of the minister.
