In a tweet on Tuesday night, Olunga who plays for Japanese club, Kashiwa Reysol, said it was an honour representing the country in the competition.

He also pointed out that their presence at the Afcon will add value in their upcoming competitions as they had gained a lot of experience.

"A LEARNING CURVE IS ESSENTIAL TO GROWTH. Thank you all for the support. We appreciate it. Hope this experience can be vital in the upcoming assignments. We will definitely learn from this and strive to make progress once again, it was an honor to represent KENYA," Olunga tweeted

Harambee Stars have been out of the Afcon since 2004. Their chances of proceeding to the round of 16 were dimmed after their 3-0 lose to Senegal in their final match of the group stages.

They were officially knocked out of the competitions after Cameroon failed to beat Benin in a tight match that ended in a barren draw on Tuesday night.
