The nation is currently operating under a purely presidential system, where all Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) are non-politicians, and which the former Bomet Governor wants to be changed.

Speaking on Tuesday, Ruto termed the introduction of the current system a major blunder which is currently ailing the nation and backed amendments to reverse the case.

He said that as much as there is no known referendum in the offing as of now, he would openly support changes that would see to it that ministers are picked from Parliament.

"We are not aware of any referendum that is in the offing. Certainly, I would support certain constitutional amendments. We made a blunder in bringing in a purely presidential system of gov’t and in removing MPs from Cabinet," he said.

He made the remarks during an interview on Citizen TV's News Night show on Tuesday night.

He said that the absence of politicians in Cabinet has made denied Kenyans the political aspect of the cabinet, adding that all of the ministers are unknown to Kenyans as things stand now.

"In my opinion, a Cabinet Secretary should be the ‘political’ head of a Ministry. Gov’t as of now has only 2 people Kenyans can understand-The President and his Deputy. The rest have no mandate," he added.

His push seems to marry with that of forces allied to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, who is also pushing for such and the expansion of the executive.
