English Premier League (EPL) side Tottenham Hotspur has a new Manager in the frame of Portuguese Jose Mourinho, after the sacking of Argentine Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday night.
Over the years, the former FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and recently Manchester United manager has cultivated a niche for himself as a defense-minded-gaffer, willing to sacrifice attacking power at the altar of a strong central midfield and defense.
National soccer team, Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama has been touted as one of the players set to benefit a great deal from Mourinho’s pragmatic approach.
Kenya Premier League (KPL) side Western Stima’s Head of Communications Dennis Mogendi popularly known as Mosh Junior, says Wanyama can now breathe a new sigh of relief, and be ready to thrive, after the sacking of Pochettino, who had relegated him to the Spurs bench.
“I know Wanyama will play for Spurs under Mourinho because we know him as a defensive coach, and Wanyama is good in that aspect. Secondly, Mourinho likes players with energy and power. Wanyama fits the bill, he ticks all the boxes of a typical Mourinho player,” Mogendi said in an interview on Wednesday.
“It is a new dawn for Wanyama as a player, but a big no to Spurs as a team,” he added.
Wanyama becomes the second member of the Noah Wanyama family to be coached by Mourinho.
In 2010, his elder brother McDonald Mariga was under the tutelage of the Portuguese tactician at Italian giants Inter Milan.
Inter Milan won the coveted Champions League title in 2010, making Mariga the only Kenyan to win the title.
