An application filed in court by Mama Ida Odinga, wife to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, seeking to have the media barred from covering a court case involving her family against her daughter-in-law Lwam Bekele, has been declined.
High Court Justice Aggrey Muchelule on Wednesday declined the application noting that the case is in an open court where access cannot be restricted.
“You are fighting in an open court; therefore, we cannot stop the media [from accessing the courtroom, or covering the case]. If the media finds the story juicy, let them publish [its details],” Muchelule said as quoted by K24 Digital.
Ida, through her lawyer, Victor Olao, had requested the court to bar the media from publishing details about the case.
Mama Ida, and Lwam are in court over the late Fidel Odinga's estate.
According to Lwam, her son is the only recognised child left behind by the late Fidel. However, Fidel's mother argues that the son sired twins with another lady before he died.
Mama Ida wants the twins to be included in the list of beneficiaries of the estate left behind by the late Fidel.
Earlier on, Justice Muchelule ordered a DNA test be conducted on the twins to determine their paternity, before the case proceeds.
