Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has urged East African Community members to embrace activities that promote the unity of the region.
Governor Mandogo highlighted the East African Local Authorities Sports Culture Association (EALASCA) and Jua Kali Nguvu Kazi as some of the activities that have bonded the regional cohesion and ties.He was speaking when he graced a dinner hosted by Kampala Municipality Mayor His Lordship Erias Lukwago, ahead of the EALASCA games set to kick off on Wednesday, December 3, 2019."As a region, we have been brought together by such events that have identified us to the rest of the continent as a prosperous region", he said."This will not only enhance cohesion but also build our economy as a region as there is a balance of ideas and goods across our borders," he added.He appreciated progress made by leaders in the region in ensuring there are policies that favour them economically, pointing out that this has created wealth to the region's citizens.On his part, Mayor Lukwago lauded the Kenyan team for embracing the East African Spirit through sports activities.He singled out world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge as a unifying factor not only to the region, but to the entire continent. Uasin Gishu county is represented in various disciplines that include Volleyball, Football, Pool among other games.Governor Mandago is expected to lead the cheering squad in the games.
