The Public Service Commission (PSC) has resolved to re-advertise the position of Auditor General, despite having shortlisted 17 applicants.
Stephen Kirogo, the PSC chair said the position will be re-advertised on Friday in major dailies for fresh applications.
Nine employees at the Auditor General’s office had been shortlisted for the job.
Some of those who were shortlisted, according to the Star, are deputy auditors-general David Gichana, Alex Rugera, Silvester Kiini, William Agunda, Edwin Kamar and directors Elizabeth Nguringa, Meshack Onyango, Nancy Gathungu, and Dennis Theuri.
Other shortlisted candidates were Abdullahi Idris, David Muchoki, Kitonyo Peter, Leonard Rang’ala, Francis Kigo, Moses Edwin, Tulula Joseph, and Calistus Wekesa.
The PSC chairman said the decision was reached after consultations with the Office of the President.
“Having been informed of the panel’s inability to submit three names for nomination, the government has made a decision to re-advertise the position on December 13,” PSC chairman Stephen Kirogo said at a press conference on Wednesday, as quoted by Nation.
Mr Edward Ouko left as the Auditor-General in August after serving his 8 years non-renewable term. He was appointed in 2011.
The new appointee will become Kenya's second Auditor General since the enactment of the new constitution.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is required to send the name of the nominee to Parliament within seven days after receiving names of preferred candidates from PSC.
