Gout is primarily characterized by extremely painful inflammation of joints, especially of the big toe, caused by a metabolic defect resulting in the accumulation of uric acid in the blood and the deposition of urates around the joints. This is as noted by Deborah Weatherspoon, a professor of nursing at Walden University

Among the causes of this particular condition include;

1. Excessive consumption of alcohol

Alcohol has toxic compounds that damage the body cells by interfering with their normal functions. The substance believed to cause gout in alcohol is ethanol. Biologically, uric acid is formed when ethanol has been broken down. It is then transported by the blood to the kidney where it is eliminated and secreted in the form of urine. However, some uric acid are not eliminated and this is what causes gout.

2. Using some drugs

 Some diuretic drugs such as those of high blood pressure, oedema and heart failure can trigger the condition. They are also speculated to cause massive accumulation of uric acids in the joints. Be warned with the type of drugs you are using. Always talk to your doctor before taking them.

3. Certain foods enriched with purines

Canned foods such as meat and fish have high purines and can easily form uric acid in the body when digested.

 4. Dehydration

Not having enough water could be a reason why you are suffering from gout. When it comes to fending off diseases, water plays an instrumental role. If you avoid drinking a lot of water, chances are that you will get the disease.
